About

Dr. Brian Lidbeck - Author-9.jpg

Academic Dean of Northpoint College in Grand Rapids, MI. Professor of Bible and Theology at Northpoint College.

I hold a Ph.D. in Biblical Interpretation and Theology and a M.Div. in Pastoral Ministry with a concentration in Biblical Languages from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary. My dissertation was published in 2020 by Wipf and Stock: Resurrection and Spirit: From the Pentateuch to Luke-Acts. I have a passion for studying pneumatology in the light of a robust Christology. My forthcoming book, A Biblical Theology of Tongues, approaches the subject of glossolalia from a christological perspective.

I have the joy of serving as the Chief Academic Officer and as a Professor of Bible and Theology at Northpoint College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. My service at Northpoint began as an adjunct professor in 2013 and transitioned into an administrative position in 2016. I had the great privilege of functioning as Northpoint’s liaison to the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) from 2017 to 2023, when Northpoint became an independently accredited institution.

The combination of academic studies and practical ministry remains a core value in my ministry. I spent twenty-four years as a senior pastor in a church in Michigan before transitioning to preparing ministry leaders at Northpoint. I am an ordained minister with the General Council of the Assemblies of God and manage to keep in touch with life in the local church by preaching at various churches, providing seminars on special topics, and serving at my home church, Grand Rapids First. Areas of particular interest and experience for preaching and special seminars include studies in Luke-Acts, the work of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, and revival.

My wife Diane and I have enjoyed married life for over thirty-five years, and we take great pleasure in travelling and rock hounding in the Lake Superior region. My students also help me stay young by joining me for adventures in kayaking, biking, hiking, skiing, and ice skating.

on Making Sense of Speaking In Tongues

Speaking in tongues isn’t something I have to do to be Pentecostal, it is a gift from God that strengthens my faith and walk with Christ. Making Sense of Speaking in Tongues is biblical teaching on tongues that lays a foundation for this beautiful spiritual experience with God. I love that the focal point of this teaching
is Jesus Christ...who is the baptizer!”
